This book, or at least selections from it -particularly the early chapters-, could (and should) be incorporated into a high school or undergraduate course on American history, and yet could still be read with profit by a professor of the same subject. Jance offers a nonstop ride in a tense mystery situation. With her parents gone, she has one goal: to pay off her father’s debts and rebuild her beloved Sweet Briar. I soon found myself caught among the memorable characters and the storyline. Also did not bother to print page numbers or anything beyond the Mark Twain text. Sadly, he passed away in 2007. This is a fascinating book.
